Conditions required a commitment for continuous monitoring
of mine noise from BHP Billiton’s Mt Arthur North coal
mine in a way that distinguished mine noise from other local
noise sources.
BarnOwl® was used
to provide continuous monitoring and real time noise control
to improve the management of mine noise.
Following the success of this
installation the system has also been installed at the Worsley
Alumina (Boddington) Bauxite mine in WA.

Rio Tinto identified an
opportunity to improve noise management processes in their
Hunter Valley mining operations with BarnOwl® technology.
BarnOwl® allowed
them to accurately distinguish their noise from other noise
sources in the area to better understand their operations
and impacts on the local community.

Anglo Coal at their Drayton
coal mine in the Hunter Valley had licence conditions which
required an upgrade in their existing monitoring regime and
they opted for BarnOwl® technology.
BarnOwl® allowed
them to accurately distinguish their noise from other noise
sources in the area to better understand their operations
and impacts on the local community.

Integra Coal (Vale) identified
an opportunity to improve noise management processes in their
Hunter Valley mining operations with BarnOwl® technology.
BarnOwl® allowed
them to accurately distinguish their noise from other noise
sources in the area to better understand their operations
and impacts on the local community.

As part of our partnership with Bruel and Kjaer and Noise Sentinel, BarnOwl® has been installed at two Goldcorp sites in Canada. These ar the first directional systems to be used and are greatly assisting the client in better understanding and managing noise.

During protracted negotiations
between Boral, the NSW DECC and local residences, it was recognised
that a more accurate method of measuring quarry noise was
required.
As part of a request for independent monitoring,
BarnOwl® was used to provide a quick and accurate
result for all parties.

Environmental Protection Agencies
require more certainty in determining industrial noise compliance
particularly where multiple noise sources are present such
as roads and industry.
Agencies also need to keep
up to date with the latest technology and have this equipment
available in the field, as needed for compliance monitoring.
One agency has been using
the system as a trial for suitability in windfarm compliance
monitoring. It is hoped that BarnOwl will eventually be the
"standard" for compliance monitoring as it is superior
to conventional unattended logger measurments in terms of
assigning actual noise levels to the turbines and more reliable
than short term attended measurments due to the additional
data collected under a varietyy of wind speeds and directions.

An independent acoustical
consultant working for Alcoa found traditional unattended
noise logging techniques were not delivering an accurate enough
result under all operational and weather conditions.
After conducting a short trial
with BarnOwl®, the increased accuracy of noise
measurement data convinced Alcoa to purchase the system and
then 1 year later add an additional field unit.

|
An independent audit of mining
operations was required to ensure the compliance monitoring
undertaken by the mine was of sufficient accuracy as the number
of complaints did not appear to correlate with expectations.
BarnOwl® was used as part of
this independent audit.

An independent acoustical
consultant working for Griffin found traditional unattended
noise logging techniques were not delivering an accurate enough
result under all operational and weather conditions.
After conducting a short trial
with BarnOwl®, the increased accuracy of noise
measurement data convinced Griffin to purchase the system
and then add an additional field unit. |
